Assessment Information and Inquiries
What is Assessment?
Assessment is the value assigned by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) to all property including land and buildings. In Ontario, property is assessed on the basis of its current value determined on a date specified in the Assessment Act. For 2013 - 2016 taxation years, the date of valuation is January 1, 2012. Any questions or concerns regarding your assessment should be directed to MPAC at 1-866-296-6722. If you wish to appeal your assessment to MPAC, the last date to do so is March 31st of each year. The forms and general information on how to file a Request for Reconsideration can be found at MPAC's website.
The Provincial Government sets the tax policies. The Provincial ministry involved in setting tax policies is the Ministry of Finance. If you have questions regarding tax policies you must contact the Ministry of Finance directly. The Town is responsible for setting tax rates sufficient to collect taxes to provide funds for local municipal services as well as collect taxes on behalf of the Region and for local School Boards.
