Lowering of Flags - Remembering Gord Downie

Today, we lower our flags at Town Hall in honourable recognition of Canada’s Gord Downie. As a soundtrack to our life in Canada, The Tragically Hip’s front man Gord Downie exemplified the spirit of being Canadian. He will be remembered for bringing together people of different ages, cultures and beliefs; and just over a year ago, bringing our nation to a standstill to unite through song. In the past few years, Gord’s commitment to and work brought significant attention to the Indigenous community and reconciliation. Last December, he was endowed with a Lakota spirit name by the Assembly of First Nations of Wicapi Omani, or “man who walks among the stars”.

The flags will remain at half-mast until sunset on the day of his funeral.
