Storm Watch - Flooding in Lincoln

Significant Rainfall Resulting in Flooding & Road Erosion

The significant rainfall has resulted in water saturation of the ground. As a result of this saturation and the high level of water in Lake Ontario, Lincoln is experiencing localized flooding. Rain is forecast for the next few days and we anticipate more flooding. The Town is making every effort to prevent additional flooding, but the combination of the saturated ground and high water levels make it challenging.

Therefore, heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

Emergency Road Closures - update May 12

The following roads are passable by local residents and emergency vehicles only. The Town is advising all other traffic to avoid these roads while repair is in progress. Heavy equipment trucks, other than emergency vehicles, are prohibited at this time.

  • Lakeside Dr. – West limits to Tufford Rd. North
  • Lakeside Dr. - Tufford Rd.North to Merrit Road North
  • Lakeshore Rd. – West limits to East limits
  • Lakeshore Rd. - East of Martin Rd. North

You can help:

There is a break in rain for a few days. However, ditches, creeks, streams and pond water levels remain high. The Town is requesting residents:

  • Avoid creeks, ditches, storm-water ponds as the current is strong and water levels are high
  • Ensure children are not playing in ditch or creek water
  • Keep catch basins in front of your home clear of leaves and debris
  • If your home has a backwater valve installed, check to ensure it is working following each storm event. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning to ensure that it is functioning properly
  • Check your sump pump regularly to make sure it is working properly. Please make sure your sump pumps are not connected to the sanitary. If it is, please make an effort to redirect it.
  • If your home or area is prone to flooding you may want to consider ensuring any valuables are up off of basement floors
