Advisory Boards & Committees

The Town of Lincoln relies on its citizens to volunteer their time and expertise by serving on various boards and committees. These boards and committees give input and recommendations on matters that affect the entire community about various subjects through discussions, presentations and recommendations. Some committees also organize and participate in community events. The Town encourages citizens who represent the diverse backgrounds of our community to participate on these committees. Becoming a member of a citizen committee or board offers residents a unique chance to volunteer their highly valued skills and strengthen our shared sense of community. The Housing Select Committee advises on policy and municipal actions that will increase the supply of diverse market, co-op and non-profit rental and ownership housing options for low and moderate income households. Although Niagara Region has the overall legislated responsibility for attainable housing, it does not control local strategies such as zoning or municipal incentive programs related to attainable housing. The Housing Select Committee strives to recommend initiatives that will enable an increase in the supply of attainable housing in the community.
The Town of Lincoln is one of six municipalities within Niagara Region that participates on the Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee (JAAC). The partnership also includes the Town of Grimsby, the Town of Pelham, the Town of West Lincoln, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, City of Port Colborne, and the City of Thorold.
JAAC provides advise and assist the Town in promoting and facilitating a barrier-free municipalities for citizens of all abilities (universal accessibility), including persons with disabilities. In addition, the Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee assists in the preparation and revisions of the Accessibility Plans for all partner municipalities which include recommendations that have been identified by numerous facilities and policy audits.
The Joint Fire Services Advisory Committee advises Council on matters related to the administration of the Fire Department, ensuring that Fire Protection Services are provided throughout both the Town of Lincoln and the Town of Grimsby, in an effective and harmonized manner in accordance with the Shared Service Agreement, and in conformance with the obligations prescribed by the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997, and any regulations enacted thereunder.
The Museum Advisory Committee assists in the implementation of the Museum’s Strategic Plan, focusing on the six strategic action areas outlined in the plan: Governance; Fundraising and Revenue Development; Exhibits, Outreach and Programs; Collections and Research; Marketing, Access and Branding; and Community Partnerships.
The Museum Advisory Committee further supports the work of the Museum and its staff, and will ensure that it meets professional standards outlined by the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries through the Standards for Community Museums in Ontario. The Museum Advisory Committee works to advance the mission and vision of the Museum and Cultural Centre as it strives to engage citizens in meaningful ways.
