Meet the Fleet

National Public Works Week is taking place from May 19 to 25, 2024. To mark this important week, the Town of Lincoln's Public Works department is hosting a "Meet the Fleet" event on Saturday, May 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Fleming Centre.

The event includes:

Family-friendly activities, including a colouring book and a "Name the Plow" contest to name one of our nine plow trucks!
Light refreshments and coffee provided by Tim Hortons.
An opportunity to meet Public Works trucks & equipment.

What is each division in Public Works responsible for?

- Constructing, repairing, and maintaining roads and bridges within the municipality.
- Managing traffic signals, signage, and road markings.
- Managing stormwater systems with the municipality
- Snow and ice removal during winter months.
- Street sweeping and maintenance to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Tree Trimming
- Providing clean and safe drinking water to residents.
- Repair main sewer lines
- Fire hydrant repair and seasonal flushing
- Responding to water main breaks, leaks, and sewer backups to ensure public health and safety.
- Provide utility locates requests.
A fleet division in a municipality is responsible for managing and maintaining the municipality's fleet of vehicles and equipment. This includes vehicles used by various departments such as roads, environmental services, by-law, community services, enterprise services and planning/building. The responsibilities of a fleet division typically include:
- Fleet Maintenance
- Vehicle Procurement
- Compliance and Regulation
- Traffic Safety Programs
- Lead project design proposals and administration of state of good repair construction activities and asset management studies
- Key studies related to transportation and municipal servicing
- Transportation planning and traffic management program
- Responsible for issuing permits for several activities including road occupancy, road closures, moving oversized loads, residential construction (entrances or water/sewer service connection to the municipal system), tourism signage
- Provides engineering support services to various departments across the organization
- Leads the detailed design and construction of major Public Works capital projects
- Provides support services to various departments across the organization
- Liaisons and partners with the Niagara Region on major Transportation and Water/Wastewater projects in the community
