Important Dates for Candidates

Nomination Period Begins: Tuesday, May 1, 2018

  • First day a person wishing to run for elected office and who is qualified to hold that office at the time of being nominated (subject to the Act) can file a nomination paper

  • First day notice of registration as a third party advertiser can be filed

  • Campaign period begins once a nomination paper or notice of registration is filed

  • Regular business hours 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, holidays excepted

  • Appointments are strongly recommended, contact the Clerks Department before attending
     

Nomination Day: Friday, July 27, 2018, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Last day for a candidate to file or withdraw a nomination

  • Nominations or withdrawal cannot be accepted beyond 2 p.m.
     

Certification of Nomination Papers: Monday, July 30, 2018

  • Certification of nomination papers before 4:00 p.m.

  • Declaration of acclamation after 4:00 p.m.

  • Proxy Vote certificates available after 4:00 p.m.
     

Voters' List: Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018

  • Voters' list available to certified candidates

  • Revision Period Begins, Voter's list available at Town Hall and library branches for supervised viewing of one's own information

  • Electors completing the prescribed form (EL15) and presenting appropriate identification may update or add their name to the voters' list. We encourage all electors to check that they are on the voter's list!
     

Expense Limits: Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018

  • Final expense limits provided to candidates and third party advertisers
     

Voting Day: Monday, Oct. 22, 2018

  • Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Election Day eligible electors will be able to exercise their democratic right to vote. 
     

Term of Office Commences: Monday, Dec. 3, 2018

  • New council deemed organized when quorum of members have taken declaration of office

  • At the Inaugural Council Meeting, elected members must take the oath of office prior to taking their seat
     

Campaign Period Ends: Monday, Dec. 31, 2018

  • Campaign period ends for candidates and registered third parties

  • Last day for candidate or registered third party to file an Extension of campaign period to erase a deficit 
     

Financial Statements: 

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019

  • Last day for Clerk to provide notice of financial filing requirements and penalties to candidates and registered third parties.

Thursday, March 28, 2019

  • Last day for candidate or registered third party to apply to Superior Court of Justice to extend the time to file the financial statement.

Friday, March 29, 2019

  • By 2 p.m.

    • Last day for all candidates and registered third parties to file their preliminary financial statements for reporting period ending December 31, 2018

    • Last day for candidate or registered third party to notify Clerk of filing extension received from the Superior Court of Justice

  • After 2 p.m.

    • 90-day compliance audit period begins

    • Start of 30-day period in which a candidate or registered third party can file the primary financial statement and pay a $500.00 late filing fee

Monday, April 29, 2019

  • By 2 p.m.

    • Last day for a candidate or registered third party to file a primary financial statement and pay the $500 late filing fee.

  • Last day for Clerk to review financial statements and report on any that have exceeded the limits

Thursday, June 27, 2019

  • Last day to request a compliance audit on a primary financial statement

Tuesday, July 2, 2019

  • End of supplementary campaign period

Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019

  • Last day for Clerk to provide notice of supplementary filing requirements and penalties to candidates or registered third parties
