Public Service Announcement - Fling on King Cancelled for 2020
Public Service Announcement – Fling on King cancelled for 2020
Lincoln ON – (Sept. 1, 2020) – The Town of Lincoln in partnership with the Downtown Bench Beamsville BIA are announcing the cancellation of the 2020 Fling on King event that was scheduled to be held on Oct. 3.
As a part of Lincoln Rerooted, the Fling on King is a street party featuring live entertainment, food vendors and local wine and craft beverages. In 2019, over 5,000 people attended this community event.
After careful review and consultation and in alignment with provincial trends, it has been determined that the delivery of this event is not viable under the current public health restrictions. Town staff have been monitoring all special events since the beginning of the pandemic and adapting, where possible, to continue the delivery of these important social gatherings for the community.
Currently, gathering limits for regions in Stage 3 have increased to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. Based on the advice provided by the Province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and other public health experts, gathering limits apply to higher risk settings and activities where people congregate, such as all organized or spontaneous indoor and outdoor events and social gatherings including concerts and live shows.
The logistics, resourcing and planning involved in hosting large-scale community events has been greatly impacted by the pandemic closures and the ability to maintain physical distancing. Community events and programs, as well as those planned and hosted by our community partners, are pillars of local heritage and culture, and instrumental to preserving and celebrating the vibrancy and connectivity of the community. Town staff will continue to make every effort to phase-in smaller events throughout the remainder of 2020 and as restrictions are lifted. Town staff look forward to working with the BIA in 2021 to revisit hosting this popular community event.
