Statement from Mayor Sandra Easton and CAO Michael Kirkopoulos on Niagara Region funding commitment to West Lincoln Memorial Hospital

Lincoln, ON - (Jan. 15, 2021) –

On behalf of Town of Lincoln Council and the entire Lincoln community, we are most pleased about yesterday’s decision at the Region’s Committee for WLMH to dedicate $12.6 million in funding toward the west Niagara hospital’s rebuilding.

This is wonderful news for the Town of Lincoln and all the communities in west Niagara. Lincoln is a growing community and a new, rebuilt hospital is necessary to meet the needs of our residents. This funding commitment at the regional level will assist in completing this project and enhancing the quality of life here in Lincoln.

We understand that there are many competing priorities throughout Niagara and that especially as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, municipal and regional budgets are constrained. At the same time, the pandemic has brought to light how important high-quality health services are to overall quality of life. This is an important investment at the right time for our community.

We look forward to continuing to work with our partners to bring this important project to fruition. These include the Province of Ontario, the hospital (and parent organization Hamilton Health Sciences), WLMH Foundation, Niagara Region, the Town of Grimsby, the Township of West Lincoln, and all individuals, businesses and agencies who have made contributions to the new hospital. And of course, my colleagues on Town of Lincoln Council and Regional Council – in particular Regional Councillor Rob Foster who continues to advocate for this project and for the Lincoln community.

Once again, thank you to the Region’s Committee for WLMH for making this a priority within Niagara so that together, we can better serve the residents of Lincoln and west Niagara.
