Media Release:  Town of Lincoln successfully holds first hybrid Council Meeting

Lincoln, ON (May 3, 2022) – The Town of Lincoln conducted a successful first hybrid Council meeting on May 2, 2022.  The Town has been diligently planning to return to in-person meetings of Council, Committee of the Whole and Advisory committees in a hybrid format. To help improve the experience for all participants in meetings, audio-visual upgrades to the Town of Lincoln Council Chambers have taken place while meetings were exclusively virtual.

“I’m pleased to share that our first hybrid meeting last night went smoothly and was a positive experience,” said Mayor Sandra Easton. “It has been two years since we’ve had the opportunity to meet in Council Chambers. The technological improvements allow us to be agile and current in the ever-changing needs of our community.”

“Engaging the community and welcoming them to in-person meetings again is an important step in pandemic recovery,” said the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, Michael Kirkopoulos. “The Council chambers upgrades allow for hybrid meetings, providing a more inclusive and flexible opportunity for involvement and participation.”

The Town of Lincoln lifted proof of vaccination requirements in its facilities as of March 1, in alignment with the provincial government easing additional measures. As per provincial regulation, other changes that came into effect on March 1 included lifting capacity limits in indoor settings.

“Moving towards hybrid meetings allows the Town to be accessible to a larger audience of residents and stakeholders,” said Julie Kirkelos, Town Clerk and Director of Legislative Services. “Technological upgrades include digital voting for Council, this allows for Council transparency, and ease to follow the meeting in person, or at home.”
