Lincoln, ON – (March 5, 2025) – On March 3, 2025, Town of Lincoln Council voted unanimously in favour of a motion for the Town to support a united “Team Canada” response to the 25% U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods.
These tariffs pose a significant threat to local businesses, workers, and economic stability on both sides of the border.
As municipalities invest billions in infrastructure and capital projects, we recognize our role in supporting Canadian industries and advocating for fair trade policies.
We urge federal and provincial governments to work collaboratively to protect Canadian businesses and consumers from the negative impacts of these tariffs. Additionally, we call for the removal of interprovincial trade barriers and policies that provide municipalities with the flexibility to avoid purchases from the United States while tariffs are imposed on Canadian goods.
Fair trade is essential to our prosperity, and we stand with all levels of government in defending Canada’s economic interests. We encourage other municipalities to join in this collective effort to safeguard jobs, investments, and economic growth. Town of Lincoln staff are currently discussing how we can promote the purchase of Canadian goods and services, while respecting existing trade agreements with other non-US countries.

The Town’s Economic Development Team has been in constant communication with our various businesses to provide support and to better understand the impacts tariffs will have. The Team has been meeting regularly with other municipalities across Niagara to coordinate a regional response to tariffs.
